On a bathroom floor, roughly two-thirds of the labor happens before the first tile is set — demo, flange work, leveling, membrane. That's also where a cheap quote gets cheap. We itemize prep separately so you can see exactly what you're paying for and compare bids honestly.

Can you tile over the existing bathroom floor?

Almost never a good idea. Old vinyl and its adhesive make an unreliable bond surface, and the added height fights the door swing, the toilet flange and the baseboard. We pull it up, verify the subfloor deflection, and start from a surface we can warranty.

Is heated tile flooring worth it in North Carolina?

In a bathroom, yes more often than people expect — it's not about heating the house, it's about a warm floor at 6 a.m. on a tile surface. The mat itself is a modest cost when the floor is already open; the real requirement is a dedicated circuit and a programmable thermostat, which we plan for during rough electrical.

How do you decide the tile layout?

We dry-lay before setting anything and center the pattern on the most-seen line — usually the doorway sightline or the front of the vanity — so the awkward cuts land under the toe kick and behind the door instead of in the middle of the room.
