Our approach

Sequencing note: paint before flooring

Where both are in scope, paint goes first. Cutting baseboard, rolling ceilings and spraying trim with a brand-new floor in the room means either taping the entire floor or risking it, and neither is a good trade. The exception is carpet, where we prefer to paint, install, then return for shoe molding touch-up.

How much does interior painting cost per room?

About $450-$1,400 per room. Walls only sits at the low end; walls, ceiling, trim and doors with patching and priming sits at the high end. Tall ceilings, heavy repairs and dark-to-light color changes add coats and labor.

How quickly can it be done?

A single room is usually a one-day job. A whole interior takes three to five days depending on square footage and how much prep and repair is involved.

When should I repaint?

Interiors generally hold up seven to ten years; kitchens, baths and hallways less. Repaint sooner if you see scuffing that will not clean, peeling near moisture, or if you are listing the home — fresh neutral paint is one of the cheapest returns before a sale.

What should I do before painters arrive?

Take down wall art, curtains and outlet-adjacent items, and move small furniture out of the room. We move and cover large furniture, mask floors and trim, and handle patching before the first coat.

What sheen should go where?

Flat or matte on ceilings, because it hides drywall imperfections under overhead light. Eggshell or satin on most walls — washable without highlighting every roller mark. Semi-gloss on trim, doors and bathrooms where you need moisture resistance and a hard, wipeable surface. We'll deviate from that when a wall is badly patched, and we'll tell you why.

Do you paint kitchen cabinets?

Yes, and it's a different job from wall painting. Doors come off and get sprayed off site or in a controlled area, boxes are degreased, deglossed and primed with a bonding primer, and the finish is a cabinet-rated enamel. Brushing latex over factory finish is what produces the sticky, chipping cabinets people regret — we don't do it that way.

How do you handle homes built before 1978?

We follow EPA Lead-Safe Renovation practices on pre-1978 homes: containment, HEPA vacuuming, and no dry sanding of suspect surfaces. A lot of the housing stock in Greensboro and Winston-Salem falls in that window, so it comes up regularly and it's built into how we prep.
